To Miss Selemidis, with love

Today I received such a heartfelt xmas card with beautiful words of gratitude from a year 8 English student that I was so overwhelmed I teared up. This is what she wrote:

Miss, you are one amazing teacher. I’m so lucky to have you as my Year 8 English teacher. You are one fine, caring, loving, helpful, meaningful teacher to us all and a mother to your two kids.

You are an inspiring person. I love how you’re so understanding and you get along well with others. I also love how you’re so caring and have a good bond with your family.

Miss, I hope to have you in Year 10 again. Thank you for everything this year.

You are one top teacher!

I wish you luck with next year. I’ll always stop to have a chat with you Miss.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Best Wishes

Linda Kosanlawath

It’s the best gift to be appreciated for everything you do in a largely thankless occupation. Oh and the chocolates and mini fibre optic tree were a delight too!

And you continue to touch, engage, impact and inspire. Makes me proud to also have had the same expereince, proving you are not just a teacher of the classroom…….

  3. Melpomene says:

You know, that is exactly what being a teacher is all about. Making a significance difference in a person’s life. Not just in terms of knowledge and information given but also as a boost to that person’s confidence, imagination, self worth and energy as a whole.

As one of those students in which your appearance made a tremendous impact in my life, I completely and wholeheartedly agree with this student’s view. I believe the only difference between Linda and I is that she was able to realise your significant impact earlier than I did ( I blame biology for that, girls do mature earlier after all).

Going forward, I hope that this comment re-affirms what you already know, what is always true but not so openly admitted. You are one of the best teachers and role models that a young teenager can have and I pray that you continue to do so amazingly in all aspects of your life. Furthermore, I can only wish that your good nature and outstanding performance acts as the bar to beat for all other teachers that work with you so that over time, teachers like you can be the catalyst of a change in which people remember why they wanted to teach in the first place.

With that said, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to come.

With all due Respect, Sincerity and Honesty,

    Emmanuel Mbala.

Oh Emmanuel, what a joy to hear from you again!
Always beautifully spoken and bursting with enthusiasm. Love that about you.
Thank you for being a part of some of my fondest memories at Reservoir. Why don’t you visit?
Wishing you well always. Happy Holidays.
    Melanie Selemidis xx
